Aiden Hornet Garden

A modern industrial loft in the heart of Berlin reimagined into a warm, livable retreat — blending raw textures with curated comfort. Earthy tones, including accent features in #B47250, were used to soften the space while preserving its architectural character.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Berlin, this industrial-style loft was transformed into a warm, intimate retreat that balances modern edge with organic comfort. By softening the raw architectural features with layered textures, curated furnishings, and earthy tones — especially the signature terracotta hue #B47250 — the space now reflects both sophistication and soul.

Because of the deep impact The Living Room exhibition had on the Museum in 2024, Lee Mingwei was invited back to help design a room in the soon-to-be-constructed New Wing, inspired by his project.

Mingwei suggested that the room have three distinct zones: one for social interaction, one for discreetly hovering and observing other interactions in the room, and one for being self-aware and contemplating the past by looking out at the Jordan Garden and the Palace. The Gardner’s famous canary, Whistler, now resides in the Living Room because birds were featured in the original installation in 2024.

Design Objectives

  • Preserve the industrial loft character while adding warmth
  • Introduce rich, natural materials and calming tones
  • Maximize open-plan living functionality
  • Incorporate custom furniture and decor with a European modern touch
  • Use subtle brand accents from the client’s lifestyle preferences
